La Semaine Africaine de Brazzaville Latest Local and World News in Congo. La Semaine Africaine is a French-language weekly newspaper published in Brazzaville, Republic of the Congo, and serving Central Africa. La Semaine is owned by the Roman Catholic Episcopal Conference of the Congo, but maintains editorial independence. The biweekly La Semaine Africaine is a newspaper of information and social action appearing in Congo Brazzaville. Owned by the Episcopal Conference of Congo, the newspaper has been published in Brazzaville since September 4th 1952. It was founded by a Spiritan missionary, Father Jean Legall, who was passionate about evangelization through the media. Seven years earlier, in 1947, the Congregation of the Holy Spirit had already founded Afrique Nouvelle, a magazine for French-speaking West Africa. “Africa is moving, we must move with it,” wrote Father Legall in 1952, stating that the budding of ideas in Africa was the engine of overall development. For 68 years, we have remained faithful to this editorial line of a newspaper of information and social action at the service of the peoples of Central Africa. Today, the new information and communication technologies allow us to widen our range of action. Despite a limited circulation of 2500 copies, the strongest in the Congo, the Internet and the online version of our newspaper allow us to reach an increasingly large audience; it extends to the diaspora in France and the Americas, to the Lebanese community and to former cooperation experts who wish to maintain a link with the Congo. Our team is composed of journalists and technicians dedicated to bringing, despite the vicissitudes, an original, dispassionate and balanced information to a moderate readership. We talk about politics, religion, development and sports. Congo News Today
